After going to another Scuba shop that was a nightmare we hesitantly decided to come here. And we were amazed! This shop was the best.
Upon entering the shop you see a lot of gear, all organizes nicely, and some displayed in fun ways. We are immediately greeted by a young man who asks what we’re looking for. We explain to him that we are going on a cruise and need some dive equipment. Now as he is doing this there are 2 other individuals directly helping other customers, as those customers finish the other workers come over to help.
An older gentleman who seemed more experience (who I believe was the owner) came over and started helping us get fitted for masks. Instead of just pointing to a wall and telling us to try till it fits (like other shops) he looked at our faces and guessed, handing us a mask to try and telling us how to test the fit. He also told us to not put the masks back on the wall so they could clean them between shoppers!
He had us try different masks, and when we decided on the best fit and comfort he asked us what color we wanted, they had a large variety of colors in each mask. He then had us try on the specific mask we were planning to buy to ensure it was good. After deciding they took the masks to wash while we moved on to the snorkels. He suggested a snorkel (in matching colors to the masks) and offered a different clip design as an up sell. We agreed and they installed the upgraded snorkel clip for us.
He was hesitant to sell us scuba fins seeing as the cruise would provide them, but explaining to him that we would also be doing some snorkeling, and didn’t want to purchase snorkel fins, and then scuba fins when we get back he agreed that it was a good idea and we started fitting for fins.
He explained the different type of fins, and asked what type of diving we were going to do, after LISTENING TO US he made a suggestion and told us why he suggested that specific fin. We agreed and we got fitted for the booties. At this point all 3 attendants were helping us, 2 were running around grabbing different sizes to try while the owner was educating us on the gear. They even made sure the booties fit perfectly.
We weren’t planning on wetsuits, and we didn’t get any, but they were happy to answer our questions. They also answered our questions about the different breathing gear they had and made their suggestions for future purchases.
As we finished up we ended up happily buying all the gear we planned to and a little more. We left feeling more educated and ready for our cruise adventures. They showed us how to properly adjust everything we got, how to apply “spit” properly to the goggles (and no not regular saliva).
In short: this was a fun, engaging, and personal shop. It didn’t seem like they were just trying to make a sale. We felt like they cared and listened to our concerns and plans. We will be coming here after our cruise for more training and more gear! – via
